Bluffing Properly and Effectively for Maximizing Poker Profits

By David Lebrun

Many people enjoy a nice game of online poker and most people spend small amounts of money because they don't win often enough for it to be worth depositing large amounts of money. Winning a poker will come down to a few different factors which can be controlled by the player and two which cannot. The two factors that a player has absolutely no control over are the cards that are dealt and the opponent's level of comprehension and how the opponent plays their cards. However, you have complete control over your own comprehension of an opponent's strategy, the bluffs that you make, and the amount that you bet/raise as well as when you do such things. The main topic that I will focus is on is bluffing in poker and how to properly bluff.

Bluffing is an art form and many people don't understand it well enough to incorporate it as a helpful tool during a game. However, those who know how and when bluffing strategies should be applied normally have an advantage.

The first thing to do is watch your opponent and make sure that you notice the cards that the person had once the hand is over. Try to place yourself in their situation; this will give you an idea of what a person is willing to bet for a certain hand. For example, if a person has a flush, jack high and they fold after you bet a small amount, you will know that the person is not much of a risk taker. This tells you that going all-in with a decent hand will probably result in that person folding unless they are very confident about their own hand.

Avoid doing so too often though or that person will eventually realize that you are simply going all in to get a quick and easy win. Pick your moments critically and avoid going all-in too early in the game.

Another good bluffing tip is to avoid going all-in. People who go all-in are either bluffing or they have an incredible hand; this will create panic in the opponents and they may make unpredictable moves. Rather than going all-in, wait until there are good cards on the table. For example; if there is a flush possibility in a texas hold'em game after the flop then you should bet a decent amount. If you someone follows, you should fold immediately because you know that they have a flush or better.
